St. Nemesius is a Catholic chapel near the hamlet of Burgholz in the Schwäbisch Gmünd district of Hussenhofen .

history

A chapel is said to have existed in Burgholz as early as 1349. This belonged to the parish in Iggingen , today to the parish of St. Leonhard in Hussenhofen. In addition to the parishes, care was taken over by the Gmünder Heiliggeistspital and the Gmünder Gotteszell Monastery . In 1588 this was described as dilapidated, in 1660/1661 a new building was carried out, with parts of the previous chapel possibly being taken over. In 1778 the hospital made a renovation.

Repairs were carried out in 1913, 1930, 1957, 1977 and 1997/1998.

Furnishing

The simple chapel has a ceiling painting from 1919 in a baroque stucco frame , which shows Mary enthroned on clouds above castle wood. The high altar is in the neo-renaissance style and was made in the late 19th century. In the center of the altar is a Pietà from around 1400. The figure is flanked by two figures of saints from 1510 from the workshop of Nikolaus Weckmann . The St. Nemesius figure from around 1500 on the left side altar also comes from this workshop . The Sacred Heart figure on the right side altar was made in the early 20th century.

A figure of Mary with child from around 1515 is attributed to Daniel Mauch's circle . Today it is kept in the Gmünder Stadtmuseum in the Prediger . an Anna Selbdritt figure was created in the 19th century and is a copy of a figure on the Gmünder St. Salvator . A Burgholz measuring chalice from the 17th century is now kept at St. Leonhard .
