history

St. Leonhard I

The first St. Leonhard's chapel stood at today's Johanniskirche. It is said to have been consecrated as early as 1304 . However, the floor plan of the stone building shows a rather unusual shape for the early 14th century. The hall building had a semicircular end as a choir . In 1698 the chapel was provided with a roof turret, in 1727 a gallery was drawn in and a new pulpit was installed before the roof was renewed in 1729. The gallery was painted with the twelve apostles, the high altar came from Herlikofen and was made in the late Renaissance . In 1913 the chapel was demolished and replaced by a new building.

St. Leonhard II (today Johanneskirche)

Johanneskirche

After the old St. Leonhard's Chapel had become too small, a new building began in its place ( location ) in 1913. The building erected by August Koch from Stuttgart was consecrated on December 18 of the same year. Architecturally, it was probably based on the previous building. The painting was done in 1919 by Georg Bauer . In 1958, during an interior renovation, the pulpit and the superstructures of the high altar were removed, and the choir arch painting was renewed by Otto Eberle. After the church became too small again in the 1960s, a new and larger St. Leonhard's Church was planned at a new location. The little church from 1913 was sold in 1969 to the Protestant parish of Oberböbingen . The evangelical parish had the empty church rebuilt in the 1970s, with parish rooms in the west being separated off and the side altar niches walled up. A choir apex round window was also walled up at this time, reopened in 1987 with the old glazing.

The current bell was adopted when the company was sold in 1969:

2 Michael's Bell 580 mm 1947 ges '' Wilh. Kuhn Wolfart, Lauingen

In 2017 the Johanneskirche was taken over by the Coptic Christians and became the first own church of the Copts in Baden-Württemberg .

St. Leonhard III

St. Leonhard

Today's St. Leonhard Church was built by Fritz Vogt from Schorndorf and Otto Sauter from Schwäbisch Gmünd between 1963 and 1967. The design of the irregular hexagon church was carried out by Alfred Appenzeller from Altheim , although some of the furnishings were taken over from the old Leonhard Church . A Saint Leonhard from the 17th century, a Maria with child from the 18th century and a Pietà from the 17th or 18th century were adopted. There is also an oil painting from 1816 depicting the crucifixion , created by Johann Christof Haas . In the church treasure there is a chalice from the 17th century.
