Johann Christof Haas (born December 27, 1753 in Reutte , † September 5, 1829 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ) was an Austrian painter . He is one of the most important representatives of the classicism of the Tyrolean Ausserfern .

Haas was born in Reutte in Tyrol in 1753 as the son of a small trader . After attending the parish school there , he became a student of Franz Anton Zeiller , who took him to South Tyrol on assignments . As he distinguished himself through his eagerness to teach, he received a scholarship from the Reutten merchant Jakob Mang Amann after the early death of his parents to train as a painter in Italy . After the death of his patron, Haas was supported by the sisters Johanna and Franziska von Strelle .

After returning from Italy, Haas mainly painted in the vicinity of his home town for church furnishings . Some of his works are exhibited today in the museum in the Green House in Reutte.

His life path is largely unknown.

In 1829 Haas died in the Katharinenspital in Schwäbisch Gmünd, impoverished and single.
