Trinity Chapel

The Dreifaltigkeitskapelle is a chapel in the Gewann Schapplachhalde , southeast of the old town in Schwäbisch Gmünd . The Gmünder chronicler Dominikus Debler dates the chapel to 1693, but there is no contemporary evidence for this date. It was not mentioned in a document until 1800. The year 1759 is found in the lintels, which indicates that the chapel was extensively renovated in that year. In 1866 the chapel went to the Balthasar Debler Foundation . Further renovations followed in 1826, 1873, 1893, 1905 and 1953. On the initiative of Werner HA Debler , renovations by the local Debler families took place in 1986/87. As part of the patronage of the chapel, the Trinity Festival takes place annually around the chapel.

A panel painting ("In 1693 Abraham Frantz and his dear wife Ursula had this chapel made here in honor of the Holy Trinity because of a wonderful event. ") From around 1800 shows the founding legend , according to which the chapel was a foundation of the goldsmith and shopkeeper Abraham Franz (1655–1726) and his wife Ursula Dayblerin after Franz hunted on a Trinity Sunday and thus committed Sunday crime . Luckily, depending on the version of the legend, he then shot a blackbird or a raven that fell to the ground with a rosary in its beak.

The altar cross, made in 1905 by Friedrich Britsch , was stolen in 2011.
