The section of the Schleifkottenbahn in the Wuppertalbahn network

The Schleifkottenbahn GmbH (SKB) owns the remaining 7 km long eastern section of the former Wuppertal Railway between the Halveran district of Oberbrügge and the small town of Halver . It is an approved railway infrastructure and rail transport company.

route

The single - track standard - gauge line of the Schleifkottenbahn GmbH is in the Märkisches Kreis in Westphalia . It branches off from the Volmetalbahn at the Oberbrugge train station, which is no longer served by passenger traffic, or the Halver-Oberbrugge stop, which is not yet served again, and rises steadily to the Halver cultural station . From the former station Vollme-Ehringhausen the platform edge is still preserved. In addition to cuts, dams and smaller bridges, the 304-meter-long Sticht tunnel is the most important engineering structure on the rail link. The end of the line is now Halver station.

history

The Oberbrügge – Halver –schlag – Radevormwald section and the stopWipperfürth junction were opened on June 30, 1910. Thus the narrow-gauge railway Halver – Schalksmühle ( Hälvertalbahn ) of the Altenaer Eisenbahn district lost its importance. On May 30, 1964, passenger traffic on the Oberbrügge – Halver line was discontinued.

The railway line was only used occasionally for excursions, from the 1980s onwards regularly at the Halveraner fair by the Citizens' Association for the Promotion of Rail Traffic (BFS). As a result of the activities of the FSO, the route came back into the DB's timetable for a few years. The name Schleifkottenbahn was coined by the FSO because the route leads past the Herweger Schleifkotten . In May 1995 the freight traffic between Oberbrugge and Halver was also stopped.

At the end of 2000, Schleifkottenbahn GmbH acquired the railway line from Deutsche Bahn AG and received official approval for a railway operation.

The Schleifkottenbahn initially wanted to set up freight traffic again on the railway line and, due to new innovative technologies such as B. the use of reusable vehicles that can run on both tracks and roads, or operate economically with a new and, due to its simplification, cost-effective container terminal , "System Kugel".

Alternatively, Schleifkottenbahn GmbH wanted to operate the route with a rail taxi as part of a new light rail route that is connected to the Volmetalbahn.

In the absence of funding, the Schleifkottenbahn GmbH postponed its plans in this regard at the end of 2014. After there had been considerations in the meantime to turn the railway line into a hiking and cycling path, a draisine railway was initially set up in cooperation with the Draisinenbahnen Berlin / Brandenburg GmbH & Co. KG. In the meantime, the draisinenbahn is operated with its own draisines. With the income from the draisine operation, the route can be maintained over the long term and its existence secured.

On July 18, 2020, it became known that the Westphalia-Lippe local transport association is planning a feasibility study to reactivate the railway line.
