Rail transport

The Oberbrügge station of the Volmetalbahn

The closest train station is currently Lüdenscheid-Bruges . This can be easily reached by car or bus in a few minutes.

Located on the Volmetalbahn , the place had a branch station of the disused Wuppertalbahn via Halver and Radevormwald to Remscheid-Lennep and Wuppertal-Oberbarmen . The Lüdenscheid-Bruges - Marienheide section of the Volmetalbahn should initially be reactivated for local passenger transport by 2015. The resumption of passenger traffic then took place in December 2017.

The line from Oberbrügge to Halver was opened in 1910, and operations ceased in 1995. A limited company founded by a company tried to introduce this route with a so-called rail taxi and self-loaded goods traffic. Bicycles have been running on the Schleifkottenbahn since June 2015. (see www.schleifkottendraisinenbahn.de).

In addition, freight trains from the local quarry run on the route from Krummenerl and continue north on the Volmetalbahn through the Oberbrugger train station.

Lt. on page 121 of the concept “Regional Integrated Development and Action Concept Above the Volme”, in order to reconnect the city of Halver to the Volmeband, a connection with the central railway line at the Oberbrügge stop could be made via the Schleifkottenbahn. Special efforts would be necessary to realize it.

Lt. On page 124 of the aforementioned paper, a connection between the city of Halver and the central Volmeband axis is planned as part of the reactivation of the Volmetalbahn. Since the (former) Halver station is not located directly on the Volmetalbahn, the Oberbrugge stop on the Volmetal line in the Halver urban area would be of particular importance. From here there is the possibility of z. B. via the Schleifkottenbahn to create a connection to the center of Halver.

The money for reactivating the Oberbrügge train station is to come from regional funds in 2013 . Around 160,000 euros are to be invested in 2015 for a new station forecourt and 45,000 euros for other measures such as improving the junction with the B 54, greening and signage.

In October 2012 it was announced that in the course of the Regionale 2013 for the upgrading of the Oberbrügge train station 136,500 euros would flow to the city of Halver. The upgrading of the station in Oberbrügge is related to the reactivation and expansion of the Volmetalbahn. The Volmetalbahn is to run from Hagen via Schalksmühle, Halver, Kierspe to Meinerzhagen from 2015. From the point of view of the regional planners, the resumption of local rail transport is the most important common focus and also the backbone of a future-oriented, sustainable development in Volmetal. The connection of the four Volmekommunen to the Ruhr area in the north and to the Rhine in the south should help to keep the population in the existing places and to bring new residents and tourists to the region.

Deutsche Bahn AG is to expand the Oberbrügge station and, with the help of subsidies, prepare the forecourt and provide it with a bicycle parking space and a small glass roof. The construction of a bike station is also under discussion. An operator and financing concept still has to be developed for them. The plans for the expansion and the urban development are not yet available. But it is certain that the access to the station area must be improved.

The expansion of the Halver-Oberbrügge train station is to be part of a whole bundle of measures as part of the regional project “Above an der Volme”. After approval by the Arnsberg district government, funding of 136,500 euros is now available for its upgrading. The district government announced this on October 8, 2012. In the upper Volmetal, Meinerzhagen, Kierspe, Halver and Schalksmühle want to pursue a sustainable development strategy through the “Regional Integrated Development and Action Concept (RIEHK)”. This exemplary intermunicipal cooperation in the opinion of the district government was rewarded: As a regional project, “Oben an der Volme” received its third star in the qualification process. The joint intermunicipal projects in the context of Regionale 2013 include, for example, the reactivation and expansion of the Volmetalbahn, the “Volmeband” cycling and skating route, as well as the “Art Volmetal” intermunicipal art and culture axis, the Kierspe Volme amusement park and upgrading of the city centers. And as soon as the Volmetalbahn is fully reactivated in 2015, the Oberbrugge train station will also be upgraded and the area around the train station will become more attractive in terms of urban planning. The measures requested by the city of Halver to upgrade the Oberbrugge train station are to cost a total of 195,000 euros. Now that the approval from the Arnsberg district government has been granted, it is clear: 70 percent of the costs (136,500 euros) can be financed with federal and state funds through urban development funding.

Bus transport

The district is connected to local public transport by bus routes 58, 59, 91 and 134 operated by Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) and Busverkehr Ruhr-Sieg (BRS), which is a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn (DB) .

Important bus stops in the district are: "Ehringhausen", "Dorfschänke", "St. Georg ”,“ Oberbrügge Post ”,“ Oberbrügge ”and“ Oberbrügge Schule ”.

Road traffic

The connection to the federal motorway network is via the nearby exits no.13 Lüdenscheid-Nord and exit no.14 Lüdenscheid of the federal motorway 45 . This leads north to Hagen and Dortmund and south to Siegen , Wetzlar , Gießen and Frankfurt am Main . An alternative junction is exit 15 Lüdenscheid-Süd of the A 45.

The B 54 runs through Oberbrügge itself through the Volme valley from Hagen to Meinerzhagen (and on to Siegen ). The B 229 is also close to Oberbrügge and easily accessible within a few driving minutes.
