history

The Buschhauser Hammer was first mentioned in a document in 1830 and was probably built before 1790 as a split from Niederbuschhausen. According to other information, the hammer mill has been in operation since 1786, and it was not until 1961 that its use as a water drive ended. A medium- sized and two overshot water wheels were driven through a pond and an upper ditch that branched off from the Ennepe.

After they were no longer used, some of the buildings fell into disrepair, but from 2001 they were restored by private hands together with the technical and hydraulic systems. Today, after initial bureaucratic obstacles - as a condition for operation, u. a. The construction of a fish ladder required - a hydropower plant operated in Buschhauser Hammer that has been producing 10-12 kWh of electricity for 2,520 hours a year under full load and 3,360 hours a year under partial load since January 2006 . The resistance to the bureaucratic hurdles was awarded the Werner Bonhoff Prize.
