Niederhürxtal is located at 363 meters above sea ​​level north of the main town in Halver in the valley of the Schlechtenbach on its upper reaches. Other neighboring towns are Oberlangenscheid , Dicksiepen and an industrial area of ​​the main town in Halver.

Niederhürxtal was first mentioned in a document in 1542, but the time of origin of the settlement is assumed to be between 1200 and 1300 at the end of the medieval clearing period.

In 1838 Niederhürxtal belonged to the Gloerfeld peasantry within the mayor's office of Halver and was called Alten-Hürxtal at that time . The place called Kotten according to the location and distance table of the government district of Arnsberg had a residential house and two agricultural buildings at that time. At that time ten residents lived in the place, all of them Protestant faith.
