Hartmecke is a district of Halver in the Märkisches Kreis in the administrative district of Arnsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

Hartmecke, which consists of two settlement areas, is located in the west of the Halveran urban area in the Ennepe valley . The neighboring towns are Burbach , Ahe , Niederbuschhausen , Buschhauser Hammer , Grafweg , Holte , Nordeln with the Nordeler Schleifkotten . The place can be reached via a road that branches off the federal road 229 at Niederennepe and connects the villages in the Ennepetal. The Hartmeckebach, which rises near Diepenbruch, flows out at Hartmeckein the Ennepe. To the west of the village is the 381 meter high Nesselberg elevation.

history

At the latest since the early Middle Ages (according to other sources since prehistoric times) an important old road from Wipperfürth to Breckerfeld crossed the Ennepe south of Hartmecke near Nordeln . To the south of the place there is a ring wall on the Bollberg , which, according to excavations (ceramic finds from the 9th century) and recent research, is interpreted as a Franconian expansion and refuge castle to secure this old road.
