history

Hinterhedfeld was first mentioned in a document in 1557, but the time of origin of the settlement is assumed to be between 1300 and 1400 following the second medieval clearing period. Hinterhedfeld is a split from Schulten Hedfeld.

In 1818 ten residents lived in the village. In 1838 Hinterhedfeld belonged to the Bommerter peasantry within the mayor's office of Halver as Hintern-Hedfeld . The place, which was categorized as a courtyard according to the location and distance table of the government district of Arnsberg , had three residential buildings, a factory or mill and four agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 13 residents lived in the village, all of whom were Protestant.

The municipality encyclopedia for the province of Westphalia from 1887 gives a number of 21 inhabitants for Hinternhedfeld who lived in three houses.

Since the early Middle Ages (according to other sources, since prehistoric times) an important old road led past Hinterhedfeld to the west , the trade , pilgrimage and army route from Hagen via Breckerfeld , Halver and Rönsahl to Siegen . The ravines south of the village, protected as a cultural monument , come from this old road. In the 19th century, the Hinterhedfelder Mühlen, a grain and powder mill, was located on the Bommecke stream .
