history
Bärendahl was first mentioned in a document in 1480, but the time of origin of the settlement is presumed to be between 1300 and 1400 following the second medieval clearing period.
At least since the early Middle Ages (according to other sources, since prehistoric times) an important old road ran past Bärendahl from Wipperfürth to Breckerfeld . To the north of the village there is a ring wall on the Bollberg , which, according to excavations (ceramic finds from the 9th century) and recent research, is interpreted as a Franconian expansion and refuge castle to secure this old road.
Around 1500 it is documented by documents that the Bärendahl farm was subject to tax in the Bergisches Amt Beyenburg . The jurisdiction of the court was subordinate to a Bergisch judge specially appointed for the Bergische Höfe in the otherwise Brandenburg- dominated parish of Halver, which often led to a dispute with the Brandenburg count actually responsible for the parish .
In 1818 six people lived in the village. According to the location and distance table of the government district of Arnsberg , Bärendahl was categorized as Kotten and in 1838 had a population of 17, all of whom were Protestant. At that time the place belonged to the Eickhöfer peasantry within the mayor's office of Halver and owned a house and a factory or mill.
The community encyclopedia for the province of Westphalia from 1887 gives a number of ten residents who lived in a residential building.
