Auf der Brake is a court in Halver in the Märkisches Kreis in the administrative district of Arnsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

On the Brake lies at 390 meters above sea level south of the main town in Halver, on the watershed between the river systems of the Ennepe and the Wupper . The place is north of the state road L284 near the larger stop . Other neighboring towns are Kückelhausen , Sondern , Schlade and Ehberg . To the south of the place rises a hill at 412.7 meters above sea level, to the north a tributary of the Ennepe flows past the place.

history

On the Brake was first mentioned in a document in 900 and 1050, but the time of origin of the settlement is assumed to be between 693 and 772 during the Saxon - Franconian border disputes. Thus Auf der Brake belongs to the early settlements in Halver.

In 1818 eight residents lived in the village. According to the table of localities and distances from the government district of Arnsberg , Auf der Brake was categorized as Kotten and in 1838 had a population of 20, all of whom were Protestant. At that time the place belonged to the Bommerter peasantry within the mayor's office Halver and owned a house and an agricultural building.

The community encyclopedia for the province of Westphalia from 1887 gives a number of 16 residents who lived in a residential building.

South of Auf der Brake on the route of today's state road L284 ran an old road from Schwelm via Radevormwald to Wegerhof , which was used as an iron and coal road. For this reason, bundles of ravines and land weirs blocking the path can be found in the forest area of Bommert . An old road ran north of the place on the route of the Wuppertal Railway from Cologne via Wipperfürth , Halver, Lüdenscheid , Werdohl and Arnsberg to Soest , an important early medieval (according to other views already prehistoric ) trade , pilgrimage and military route .
