The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1524, but the time of origin of the settlement is assumed to be between 630 and 700 during the time of the second Saxon conquest. Thus, Burg is one of the earlier settlements in Halver.

As the name suggests was in a fortified castle noble residence, a Gräftenhof and Freigut , which lasted until about 1524th The castle is said to have had a double moat and a curtain wall with a drawbridge . According to tradition, the manor house stood within the inner moat, and the other court houses between the inner and outer moats. The members of the noble family who lived there and were previously unknown in research were killed by “marauding people” when the festivities were razed and the settlement area remained orphaned for several years. Around 1530 it was sold by the distant heirs to two farmers and craftsmen who built the present-day court just above.

Two important old streets ran past the castle , early medieval (according to other views already early historical ) trade , pilgrimage and military routes . On the one hand, the old road from Halver via Wipperfürth , Halver, Kierspe to Meinerzhagen , the Hileweg , directly on the site on the route of today's state road L528 , and on the other hand, west of Burg, the old road from Hagen via Breckerfeld , Halver and Rönsahl to Siegen . To the northwest ran a third, also an important old road from Cologne via Wipperfürth, Halver, Lüdenscheid , Werdohl and Arnsberg to Soest . The castle probably also served to secure these paths.

As a castle in the 15th / 16th Developed into a manor in the 19th century , the place had a courtyard size of around 400 acres .

In 1818 five residents lived in the village. According to the table of localities and distances from the government district of Arnsberg , Burg was categorized as a farm and in 1838 had a population of 19, all of whom were Protestant. The place belonged to the Bergfeld peasantry within the mayor's office of Halver and owned four houses, a factory or mill and an agricultural building.

The municipality encyclopedia for the province of Westphalia from 1887 gives a number of 38 residents who lived in four houses.
