Protected areas
Some sections of the Ennepe are located in different protected areas: In Halver, a little below the headwaters, the Wilde Ennepe nature reserve is designated; the further course in the urban area lies in the extensive landscape protection area Märkischer Kreis (LSG 4512-0004). In Breckerfeld there is the nature reserve Tal der Ennepe (NSG EN-030) and other areas, including the Ennepetalsperre, are located in the large Breckerfeld nature reserve (LSG 4610-026). In Ennepetal there is the nature reserve Tal der Ennepe (NSG EN-028), which extends along the river to Gut Ahlhausen . In Breckerfeld and Ennepetal, large parts of the two neighboring nature reserves Tal der Ennepe are under protection as FFH area DE-4710-301 Ennepe below the dam ; these river sections are thus part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas . In the further course the Ennepe, partly canalized, passes the town centers of Ennepetal and Gevelsberg. Up to the confluence with the Volme there are two more short sections in the landscape protection areas north of Gevelsberg in Gevelsberg and Tücking / Auf der Halle and the surrounding area (LSG 4610-019) in Hagen.
