Swell:

The Ennepetalbahn is the railway line that originally ran from Hagen to Gevelsberg - Haufe until it was extended to Ennepetal - Altenvoerde . It is named after the Ennepe River, the course of which it follows over large parts. The trains running on the Ennepetalbahn, especially the rail buses , were popularly known as "Teckel" for short.

The Ennepetalbahn is mainly used for freight traffic . A DB class 202 locomotive is usually used.

Between 2007 and 2019, a rail bus ran on a few days a year in museum train operation under the leadership of RuhrtalBahn GmbH.

history

In 1876 the section from Hagen to Gevelsberg-Haufe was opened. On September 1, 1882, the commissioning for passenger traffic to Altenvoerde took place.

Due to the increasing car and tram traffic , the passenger traffic of the Ennepetalbahn declined more and more until it was finally stopped on September 28, 1969.

Buildings

A striking structure along the route is the 89 m long Kruiner tunnel between Gevelsberg and Ennepetal. This is not a tunnel in the strict sense of the word, but a crossing under the Elberfeld – Dortmund railway line .
