history

On the Mark was first mentioned in a document in 1552, but the time of origin of the settlement is assumed to be between 1300 and 1400 following the second medieval clearing period.

In 1818 there were 20 residents in the village. According to the locality and distance table of the government district of Arnsberg , the place was called Mark , categorized as a farm and in 1838 had a population of 30, of which three were Catholic and 27 were Protestant. At that time the place belonged to the Bergfeld peasantry within the mayor's office of Halver and owned four houses, a factory or mill and two agricultural buildings.

The municipality encyclopedia for the province of Westphalia from 1887 gives a number of 38 inhabitants who lived in three houses. The place is also called Mark there.

To the east of Auf der Mark, an old road ran from Hagen via Breckerfeld , Halver and Rönsahl to Siegen , an important early medieval (according to other views, early historical ) trade , pilgrimage and military route . Another prehistoric old road via Radevormwald to Schwelm , running over today's state road L284, which was used as an iron and coal road, crossed the Heerweg to the south in the neighboring Hagebücherhöh. For this reason, southwest of Auf der Mark in the Bommert forest area, bundles of ravines and land weirs blocking the way can be found .
