Location of Winkhof in Halver

Winkhof is a district of Halver in the Märkisches Kreis in the administrative district of Arnsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

Winkhof is located to the east of Halver's main town at 400 meters above sea level on a ridge between one of the source brooks of the Hälver and Schlemme , both tributaries of the Volme , and can be reached via an access road from the nearby L892 state road . In addition to the main town, neighboring towns are Schmidtsiepen , Oberherweg , Neuenherweg , Schröders Herweg and Siepen . The current housing estate emerged from an early Halveran court .

To the west of the settlement is the Hälversprung natural monument , one of the sources of the Hälver. The section of the Wuppertal Railway on which the Schleifkottenbahn GmbH operates runs in a loop to the north of the town, and to the east is the tunnel through which the ridge is crossed. The Sieperbach also flows east of the settlement.

history

Winkhof was first mentioned in a document in the years 900 and 1130, but the time of origin of the settlement is assumed to be between 693 and 772 during the Saxon - Franconian border disputes.

Winkhof was the Sattelhof and Oberhof of the Benedictine Abbey in Werden . The tax burden on the abbey in 1445 was 18 Soester Schillings and 6 pfennigs a year , as well as twelve Malter oats . If the abbot of the abbey came to the parish Halver to hunt, the court had the duty to take it in with 13 half horses, hawks, dogs and winches .

In 1818 six people lived in the village. According to the table of localities and distances from the government district of Arnsberg , Winkhof was categorized as arable land and in 1838 had a population of eleven, all of whom were Protestant. The place belonged to the Halveraner village farmers within the Halver mayor and had two houses and three agricultural buildings.

The municipality encyclopedia for the province of Westphalia from 1887 gives a number of nine residents who lived in a residential building.

Since the Middle Ages (according to other information, since prehistoric times), an old road led from Cologne via Wipperfürth , Halver, Lüdenscheid , Werdohl and Arnsberg to Soest on the route of today's state road L892 , an important trade , pilgrimage and military route .
