The power plant Vockerode (including power plant Elbe called) is a former lignite - and, later, gas turbines - power plant on the Elbe in Vockerode in Wittenberg district in Saxony-Anhalt . The power station built in 1937 was shut down in 1994/98.
history
Vockerode was a power plant location for almost 60 years. The four large chimneys of the now decommissioned lignite-fired power station, which have been characteristic for decades, were blown up in 2001.
The first half-plant of the brown coal power plant (6 × 35 MW) was built from 1937 to 1940. From 1943 the first HVDC cable was laid from the Vockerode power plant to Berlin , but it never went into operation due to the war ( Elbe project ). The hall built for the converter was converted into a workshop building after dismantling and is still standing today. After the Second World War, the plants and equipment of the power plant were dismantled from 1945 to 1947 as a reparation payment to the Soviet Union . From 1953 to 1959, the power plant was rebuilt and expanded by a second half-plant (12 × 32 MW) in the west and with bunkers in the north. The successive recommissioning took place from October 10, 1954 with the first trial run after dismantling and expansion.
In fog on July 22, 1960, a military plane grazed the National People's Army of type Ilyushin Il-14 one of the chimneys of the power station and crashed. The six inmates and one worker were killed (see also aircraft accident in the Vockerode power plant ) .
From 1968 the city of Dessau was supplied with district heating via a 15 km long pipeline . In 1971, a gas turbine power plant was built as a peak load power plant (6 × 27 MW) south of today's state road 133 . From 1972 to 1974 a 64 hectare greenhouse complex was built for growing tomatoes and cucumbers. The heat was supplied by the lignite power plant.
The greenhouse facilities were shut down in 1991 and demolished in 1997; the lignite power station was shut down in 1994. In the summer of 1998, the state exhibition right in the middle of the power station's twelve boilers took place. In the same year, the gas turbine power plant was also in operation for the last time. On September 22, 2001, the four 140 m high chimneys of the brown coal power plant were blown up. In 2005 the oil tanks of the gas turbine power plant were dismantled. The two remaining chimneys of the gas power plant were blown up on September 18, 2013.
