Ratzeburg adventure railway
The Erlebnisbahn Ratzeburg is a leisure company that has existed since 1996 with four associated locations in Ratzeburg Bahnhof, Ratzeburg Strandbad, Schmilau and Hollenbek in Schleswig-Holstein .

The Erlebnisbahn Ratzeburg GmbH was founded in 1996 under the name Kultur-Bahnhof Ratzeburg GmbH by Oliver Victor together with an association Natour Erlebnis Werkstatt e. V. founded. In 1998, the Kulturbahnhof started operating with heavy hand lever trolleys on the Schmilau – Hollenbek line leased by Deutsche Bahn AG .
The association created a range of cultural events, concerts, blacksmithing courses, instrument making, youth exchanges, work camps and volunteer services. While the tourist mainstay developed well, the activities of the association in the village of Schmilau were not welcome and were often forbidden, so that the association was given up in 2003. This was accompanied by the renaming from Kultur-Bahnhof Ratzeburg GmbH to Erlebnisbahn Ratzeburg GmbH , which acquired the 13-kilometer-long railway line from Deutsche Bahn AG at the end of 2003.
The number of guests grew steadily and with them the range of travel options. In 2001 the offer was expanded to include the Hollenbek youth station. This was followed by the 3-muscle café in the Ratzeburg train station and the Ratzeburg – Schmilau section, especially with the 3-muscle tour. The number of guests leveled off at around 50,000 annually; in April 2006 the 250,000. Guest welcomed at the adventure railway.
In 2006, the Ratzeburg lido was added as a further station, which should round off the activities as a water park. Since the city of Ratzeburg under Mayor Rainer Voss had been conducting a protracted legal dispute against the adventure railway since 2008, with which it wanted to obtain the termination and surrender of the lido and to give up the 3-muscle tour, construction activities were suspended until further notice.
The termination could only be averted after more than two years of legal dispute in the second instance. At the same time, a “tree wagon hotel” was built in Hollenbek, a replica of a train that exploded there during the war.
