FormPro is a commercial Windows software for scanning and automatically evaluating forms , questionnaires and structured documents. FormPro was developed by the German company OCR Systeme and first appeared in 1998. It contains text recognition technologies from Nuance ( OmniPage ) and reRecognition (KADMOS).

The FormPro workflow is divided into the phases of setup , evaluation , review and export . The setup is done with a special designer and only needs to be done once for each form layout. An empty form is scanned in, on which the reading fields are defined and linked to columns in a database table or text file . The reading fields can contain printed text, handwritten numbers, ticks or barcodes . During the evaluation , completed forms can be scanned in batches or imported from image files . Different forms can be mixed in a batch and scanned and automatically assigned. Skewing and distortion of the pages are automatically compensated for by comparing them with the blank form.

During the check , reading errors or implausible values are corrected by the user by comparing them with the corresponding image sections. The data is then exported to the database table or text file linked to the form. Setup , evaluation and verification / export can be carried out at different workstations, at separate times.

FormPro works with all commercially available document scanners as it supports the two most popular driver standards ( TWAIN and ISIS ). As an alternative, it enables the import of image files in all common formats and color depths and also the automatic monitoring of a directory for newly created image files. The scanned or imported forms can also be saved in many different formats.

The current version, FormPro 3.0, was released in 2015, runs on Windows 10 , Windows 8 , Windows 7 , Vista and XP and enables the import and export of PDF files . For the first time, setup and evaluation are combined in a common program interface. FormPro offers a programming interface for using your own plausibility checks and for output in special data formats .

FormPro can be used wherever a large number (> 100) of forms or questionnaires should be recorded with as little effort as possible. Typical applications are, for example, surveys , timesheets in production, transfer slips and prescriptions or exams in the form of multiple choice tests . The most common users include universities, survey institutes, doctors and pharmacy data centers.
