Metelen Land Railway Station Museum

The Metelen Land Railway Museum on the Münster – Enschede railway line (course book route 407), based in Metelen , has been operated by the Metelen Association of Railway Interests since 1986 . V. (EIG) operated and maintained. It is located in the former station building from the 19th century, which was saved from demolition when the station was converted back into a stop in 1984 . The building is a listed building . The station was on the 64 km long Münster – Enschede railway and went into operation in 1875.

The association is in the museum a uniform and hat collection, the fully functional mechanical interlocking system of the station, a ticket printer , a bathroom scale with card issuance, a model railway and a local and long distance barrier. A self-made hand - lever trolley can be moved on an approximately 100-meter-long inspection track with a switch . A salon wagon, workshop wagons and track construction equipment as well as an industrial diesel locomotive are also owned by the association.

The bat species brown long-eared bat , small whiskered bat and large whiskered bat live in the attic of the museum building . During the expansion into a museum, the bats' entry and exit options were improved.

The museum was supported by the NRW Foundation with the conversion to a museum and with species protection measures for the bats.
