About this picture

Dielmissen is a municipality in the northern district of Holzminden in Lower Saxony (Germany) and is part of the Eschershausen-Stadtoldendorf municipality .

geography

View of Dielmissen, 2004

Gently nestled between the Ith and the elevation of the Tuchtberg in front of the Vogler , Dielmissen is on the lower slope of the Ith in the Ithbörde.

In the east and south, Dielmissen borders on Lüerdissen , in the west on Kirchbrak and in the north on Halle .

history

The present village area was around 800 AD in the border area of the Gaue Tilithi and Wikanavelde . The Gau Thilithi belonged to a part of the ancestral area of the Saxons.

The emergence of the place is shrouded in darkness. But the settlement will only have taken place in the second period, which is marked by the endings -hausen (abbreviated -sen), -heim, -dorf, -feld, etc. The fact that nine of the 13 villages with the ending -sen in the Holzminden district are located in the Ithbörde alone, the district court district of Eschershausen (probably once called Esikoshausen after Count Esiko ), seems to be reliable evidence of a closed settlement. Since the names mostly indicate private property, it can be assumed that they did not arise until the end of the period, because private property indicates a later time, but was settled before the end of this place name class (800 AD).

The village of Dielmissen was first mentioned on August 23, 1151 and from 1194 to 1401 there was a knightly family "de Didilmissen" (von Dielmissen) in neighboring villages.

Until 1941, Dielmissen belonged to the Free State of Braunschweig , where it was part of the Weser-Harz region. In 1996 there were 899 inhabitants in the municipality.

Culture and sights

The Romanesque Protestant village church of St. Nicholas dates from the early 13th century. Its interior is well worth seeing: an altarpiece from the early 16th century, a Renaissance pulpit, numerous figures of the apostles and a neo-Gothic organ. There is a stately oak tree next to the church. The Protestant church in Dielmissen has been renovated since 2010, as the building was turning due to the poor subsoil.

The Catholic Church of St. Johannes Evangelist existed from 1964 to 2004. Today the church building is used as a private house, the nearest Catholic church is in Eschershausen, about 5 km away .

In 1801 Johann Wolfgang von Goethe stayed in the "Gasthaus Angerkrug", an old half-timbered building .

The nature reserve Pöttcher Grund is partly in the area of the municipality of Dielmissen.

Hiking trails

The European long-distance hiking trail E11 (Netherlands-Masuria) runs on the Ith ridge above Dielmissen .

Economy and Infrastructure

The " Ithbörde-Weserbergland Water Association " is based in Dielmissen . This is responsible for the water supply and wastewater disposal in the combined communities of Eschershausen-Stadtoldendorf , Bodenwerder-Polle and Boffzen .
