geography

View from the slope of the castle hill to the east on Negenborn

Negenborn is surrounded by Burgberg , Vogler and the Odfeld plateau in the valley basin at the entrance to the Hooptal. Neighboring communities are Golmbach and Holenberg in the north, Stadtoldendorf in the east and Arholzen , Lobach and Deensen in the south .

The village is traversed in a westerly direction by the Forstbach , which flows into the Weser at Forst .

history

The name Negenborn is derived from the original name Nighunburni (around 908) and means nine wells and can be traced back to the nine springs in the village.

In the 15th century Negenborn was devastated by robber barons and left to the monastery for resettlement in 1490.

Negenborn was on an old military and trade route that had led from Westphalia via Höxter and Stadtoldendorf to Gandersheim and beyond and ran between the Amelungsborn monastery and Eschershausen .

The place belonged to the Duchy of Braunschweig until 1918 and to the Free State of Braunschweig until 1943 .

A men's choir was founded in 1878 and a rifle club in 1910, both of which still exist today and also belong to the Negenborn clubs founded in 1979. VfB Negenborn, founded in 1927 for football, has merged with the neighboring communities in the JSG Forstbachtal gaming community.
