About this picture

Eimen is a municipality in the eastern part of the Holzminden district in Lower Saxony (Germany) and is part of the Eschershausen-Stadtoldendorf municipality . The districts Mainzholzen and Vorwohle also belong to the community .

history

At the time of Henry II , the church of St. George was built from half-timbered wood around 1564. Around 1667 the place was decried as a “witch village” and turned to Duke Rudolf August “out of urgent need” with the wish for witch hunts. A Prussian optical telegraph station was located on the Elfas in Mainzholzen from 1832 to 1849 . In 1872 Godhard Prüssing founded the Portland Cement Factory Prüssing, Planck & Co in Vorwohle .

During the time of National Socialism there was a labor camp for Jews in Vorwohle. It was there that the metallurgist and physicist Benno Strauss (1873–1944) died.

In 1996 there were 1144 inhabitants in the municipality. In 2015 there were only 889.
