history

Heyen

Heyen celebrated its millennium on the first weekend in June 2004. Heyen was first mentioned in a document in 1004 under the name "Hegen". This name changed in 1197 to "Heygen" and in 1316 to the current spelling.

The heap-shaped village complex was cut through by the Einbeck - Hameln Heerstrasse early on. Around 1759 this street was "heavily used". At that time there was also a customs post here.

Heyen used to belong to the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel and was a church location for Christians in the area. The Reformation was introduced in 1569. The massive tower above a Romanesque barrel vault , today the sacristy, forms the oldest part of the church. During renovation work in the 1960s, Romanesque windows in the choir and a tombstone from the 12th / 13th Uncovered century. A font carved from Weser sandstone from 1625 also found its place there.

On the ridge of the Heiligenberg, south of Heyen in the direction of Bodenwerder, are the foundation walls of an old church, which were restored in 1985. In 1896 excavations revealed three construction phases from the 11th, 13th and 17th centuries. About 200 m southeast of the ruin is the "ring wall". It is one of the oldest fortifications in the Holzminden district.

In 1996 558 citizens lived in the municipality.
