Derental is located in the southwest part of the Solling low mountain range in the Solling-Vogler Nature Park in a geological ditch. In the south-west, the mostly wooded low mountain range slopes down through the Steimketal to the nearby Weser .

history

Derental was first mentioned in records at the time of Henry the Younger (1489–1568). In Derental there is a Protestant church (St. Markuskirche), which was built in 1575.

In the course of the regional reform in Lower Saxony, the independence of the Derental community ended on July 4, 1972 and it became a member of the new Boffzen community.

Until the end of 2010, Derental was a state-approved resort .

coat of arms

Derental coat of arms
Blazon : "In Green one sitting, aufbrüllender, silver (white) and reinforced rotbezungter golden (yellow) lion, which a silver (white) spear by which the tail raised curls, is in the back. A red drop of blood runs down from the spear wound. "
Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms reminds of an alleged lion hunt which took place in 1902 in the municipality. After successfully killing the animal, however, it was found that it was a Saint Bernard . The Derentaler were then mocked as lion hunters in the surrounding areas. However, they were not impressed by this and placed the hunted "lion" on the coat of arms and flag.
