history

Meinbrexen in the 17th century
Meinbrexen manor house

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1222. It belonged to the property of the Counts of Dassel . After Nienover was sold , Duke Albrecht II pledged the estate to Wasmod von Hagen in 1309. The Knights of Hagen, who were also wealthy in Bevern , Fürstenberg , Nienover, Sohlingen , Uslar and Würgassen , died out in 1575. Therefore Meinbrexen went to Statius von Münchhausen . In 1696 the von Mansberg family , who were also wealthy in Lütmarsen and Sohlingen and had been raised to the nobility two years earlier, bought the manor and in 1699 built the manor house . Ultimately, the village was built around the estate, which, along with Derental, was the southernmost place in the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel .

traffic

Culture and sights

buildings

Village church
  • The church of John the Baptist and its remains of the wall paintings date from the end of the 16th century. The roof was destroyed by lightning in 1737 and then covered again with Solling panels. The roof turret is slated. The patronage rests with the landowners. The community belongs to the parish of Holzminden-Bodenwerder .
  • The mansion is part of a building complex and is partially surrounded by a moat.
  • The park of the manor, in line with the fashion of the Age of Enlightenment , was laid out in the ground plan as a symbol of the teachings of the Freemasons, probably in the 18th century. The Eutin Palace Gardens are basically comparable . The park in Meinbrexen later fell into disrepair. The system of paths has been preserved in the form of a level scale as a symbol of the equality of all people, a stone tower as a symbol of strength and the ruins of a tea house . Today the park is in a phase of restoration.

Club life

  • The choral society was founded in 1866.
  • The Meinbrexen volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1874.
  • The fishing club was founded in 1955.
