Bevern in the 17th century

The first church was built by Brun von Bevern in 1501. The Archbishop of Cologne Hermann von Hessen consecrated the church in 1506. In 1595 Statius von Münchhausen had the church torn down and replaced with a new building.

From 1603 to 1612 Statius von Münchhausen had Bevern Castle built in the Weser Renaissance style. After a few stops, the castle is now a cultural center and location of the EEA.

In 1703 Bevern was granted market rights.

In 1832/1833 telegraph station 28 of the royal-Prussian optical telegraph connection from Berlin to Coblenz was built on the Burgberg . Remnants of this 14 m high station with a residential building can still be seen today. In 1850 the station was given up again after the electric telegraph line Berlin-Cologne went into operation.

In 1846 a Jewish cemetery was founded in Bevern. A second Jewish cemetery was set up at Am Steinbrink in 1855.

War memorial

On November 19, 1893, the Evangelical Lutheran St. John's Church, built in the neo-Gothic style, was inaugurated. It was built from partially artfully worked Weser sandstone . The church tower dates from 1571.

In June 1939 a type Bf 109 military aircraft had to make an emergency landing between Bevern and Allersheim due to a lack of fuel. There was also an emergency landing of a Ju 52 off Angermühle in August 1943 . The war memorial was erected in the center of the village.

Above the golden renaissance castle Bevern with 6 silver flags and a green gate, below a golden beaver standing against it next to two gnawed golden tree stumps with golden foliage. Culture and sights

Bevern Castle

The most famous sight is the Bevern Castle , one of the most important architectural monuments of the Weser Renaissance , built between 1603 and 1612 according to the specifications of the client Statius von Münchhausen . It is a regular four-wing complex with ornate tail gables, with two diagonally opposite stair towers around a square inner courtyard with a moat, two bridges and a castle garden.

In 1986 the district of Holzminden took over the castle from the community and has been continuously expanding it into a cultural center since then. It is the permanent home of the Bevern Local History Museum and every summer it offers a beautiful setting for the “Nocturnal Castle” event, during which the castle courtyard is illuminated with elaborate lighting effects.

The “Erlebniswelt Renaissance” (EWR), a multimedia tour through the time of the (Weser) Renaissance, has existed in Bevern Castle since 2008. Here, above all, the history of Bevern Castle is presented against the background of the biography of Statius von Münchhausen, which is characterized by breaks and incisions, in a special staging with a total of 19 experience stations. Topics include warfare and the rapidly growing money economy with speculation and money lending.

The St. John's Church in neo -Gothic style is from 1893.
