Harmonia is a German band that was at the time assigned to Krautrock , but from today's perspective was a representative of electronic music .

history

Harmonia was founded in May 1973 by the cluster musicians Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius as well as Michael Rother (previously at Kraftwerk und Neu! ).

The band released the two albums Musik von Harmonia and De Luxe . It only existed for two years. Further musical material was subsequently published under the title Harmonia '76 - Tracks and Traces , in which the British musician Brian Eno participated.

Harmonia has influenced numerous musicians. Among others, David Bowie and the band The Human League refer to Harmonia. Brian Eno called Harmonia "the most important rock group in the world". The Red Hot Chili Peppers came out as fans and asked Michael Rother to jam on their stage.

A reunion concert with the original cast took place on November 27, 2007 in the Berlin House of World Cultures.

style

While the first album offered mainly repetitive pieces without vocals and with minimally sequenced melodies, which in parts seem like an early form of ambient or trance music, the second album was a synthesizer-heavy, melodic variant of Krautrock with vocals and harmonic structures. The simple lyrics are sometimes reminiscent of happy nursery rhymes ("Always up and down - once on top and once under" and the like).
