Michael Rother (born September 2, 1950 in Hamburg ) is a German rock musician and composer .

Career

From 1965 to 1971 Michael Rother played as guitarist in the Düsseldorf band Spirits of Sound . In 1971 he made an appearance in the Beat Club as a member of the Kraftwerk group . From 1971 to 1975 he played in the group NEU! with Klaus Dinger . 1973 to 1976 the collaboration with Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius in the Harmonia group led to two LP releases.

In 1977 Michael Rother made his breakthrough with his first solo album Flammende Herzen . As a result, he released several solo albums, worked repeatedly with other musicians such as Moebius, Rodelius and Brian Eno , and produced theater and film music. From 1983 he was one of the first German musicians in his “Katzenmusik” home studio to produce his music with the computer musical instrument Fairlight CMI . As part of the radio program Sounds from the Synthesizer , Rother gave a broad insight into his musical work in 1985. In 1998, at KOMM 98 in Düsseldorf, after 22 years of abstinence from the stage, the first live performance was performed again, which has since been followed by others.

Rother caused a stir in 2003 when he came on stage for a jam session at a concert by the band Red Hot Chili Peppers in Hamburg . As a result, there were further collaborations between the band's guitarist, John Frusciante and Rother. In 2004 the two gave a joint concert in Los Angeles . In 2004 the album Remember (the Great Adventure) was released, on which Asmus Tietchens and Herbert Grönemeyer also participated. At the end of the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert on July 1, 2007 in Hamburg, Rother improvised with the band. A reunion concert by Harmonia with the original cast took place on November 27, 2007 in the Berlin House of World Cultures. In 2009 he took part with the title Neutronics 98 (A Tribute to Conny Plank ) in the compilation Brand Neu !, which is a tribute mainly to British groups on Neu! represents.
