Aurora Lacasa (born March 24, 1947 in Paris ) is a pop singer of Spanish descent who was popular in the GDR .

Life and education

She was born the daughter of the Spanish journalist couple Pilar and Ernesto Lacasa, who fled to Paris from the Franco dictatorship . In 1948 the family moved to Hungary .

They found a new home in Budapest , where their daughter Aurora attended school until 1956. Her father was involved in the World League of Democratic Youth and was brought to Ziegenhals in the GDR with the whole family in 1956 because she was no longer safe there during the Hungarian uprising . Finally the Lacasa family found a place to stay in the Berlin district of Pankow . Aurora passed the Abitur and completed vocational training as a skilled worker for mechanical engineering at VEB Bergmann-Borsig . She then started working as an interpreter for Spanish and French in the Cuban embassy. Here she was responsible for the procurement of new machines and vehicles, for example trucks for Cuba .

By chance, mother Lacasa met the GDR music group Oktoberklub in 1968 while preparing for the World Festival of Youth and Students in Sofia, and it was here that her daughter made her first contact with the singing movement .

In the same year she was able to perform at an international youth camp in Prenden . Her performances of songs from the Spanish Civil War and poems by Federico García Lorca delighted the audience. She then got the offer via the youth broadcaster DT 64 to train as a singer at the Central Studio for Entertainment Art of the GDR.

Training to become a singer and successes

During her training, Aurora Lacasa got to know artists such as Wolfgang Ziegler and Barbara Thalheim . Her repertoire soon found popularity, so that she appeared in shows such as Ein Kessel Buntes , at galas also in the Friedrichstadtpalast , with the television program Christmas in Family , in the program Mit Lutz und Liebe and at other cultural events in the GDR. Tours through the USSR , Cuba, Poland , Bulgaria , France , Portugal and Arab states soon followed .

After the fall of the Wall, Lacasa returned to Germany and was mainly celebrated on its Christmas tours. She was accompanied by a band of young South American musicians.

In 2009 she was on the road with the solo program Spurensuche , which mainly offered chansons . In 2010 she was on tour with her band and the concert Lebenslinien .

Until 2017, Aurora Lacasa toured with programs under the title forensics and Christmas concerts, before she said goodbye to the stage and her audience in 2018.
