Wolfgang Ziegler (born October 8, 1943 in Rostock ) is a German rock , pop and hit singer and composer . He became known beyond the GDR borders in 1987 with the title Damned!

Life

Wolfgang Ziegler graduated from high school in the GDR and completed an apprenticeship as an engine builder from 1963 to 1965. After that he was employed as a consultant for cultural tasks until 1970.

He was already making music in the 1960s and took piano lessons as a schoolboy. The Beat Quartet to which he belonged became the Baltics, popular in the north of the GDR, in 1964 . Here he made music with Peter Zimmermann (electric bass), Eckhard Woytowicz (alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, clarinet, guitar), Knud Benedict (mellotron, guitar) and H.-Joachim Seering (drums). In 1966 he co-wrote the soundtrack for the DEFA film Die Reise nach Sundevit by Heiner Carow .

From 1970 to 1973 Wolfgang Ziegler studied singing at the studio for entertainment arts in East Berlin and composition at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy . In 1972 he founded the group WIR with Jens Gerlach , with which he performed for 14 years.

Wolfgang Ziegler has been performing solo since 1986. Damn! Became his most successful title . (1987). A music video was also released in the GDR. In 1991 it reached the German single charts for the only time so far (No. 75) with the title Hate Me, If You Can .

Ziegler lives in Berlin-Kaulsdorf and is married. He has four children. One son is the producer Martin de Vries . He comes from the marriage with the we- singer Doris Martin (today Doris de Vries). His daughter Sabrina Ziegler was a founding member of the girls' band Samajona in the early 2000s .

style

The industry magazine MusikWoche said that the nickname " Roland Kaiser des Ostens", which the press gave him, falls short. Rather, Ziegler is an independent musician who mixes "romantic ballads with pithy German pop songs".
