Baltics (actually Baltic quintet) was a German beat band from Rostock , which was particularly well known in the north of the GDR. The band was founded in 1964 and emerged from the "Trio 63" already known in Rostock. First the "Beat Quartet" was created with: Wolfgang Ziegler (band leader, guitar, vocals, piano), Wolfgang Fennel (guitar), Eckhardt Woytowicz (tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, clarinet, flute, guitar), and Hans-Joachim Seering (drums) ; in this line-up there have already been their first television appearances, among others in "Herzklopfen gratis" with Heinz Quermann . In 1965 the band had a small appearance in the children's film " Reise nach Sundevit ", at the request of Heiner Carow (director) the beat quartet recorded the entire film music in Babelsberg. Wolfgang Ziegler wrote the film music in collaboration with Wolfgang Fennel.

In 1966 the band had to rename itself the Baltic Quartet for cultural and political reasons. After that there was only the participation in a rather insignificant television film "Trick 17b".

In 1967 Peter Zimmermann (bass guitar) was added, and Knud Benedict (guitar) replaced Wolfgang Fennel, thus creating the Baltic quintet. In 1969, Benedict and Seering left the quintet to found the Rostock amateur band Badister with ex-Baltic Fennel and Reinhard Möller (keyboard).

With the end of the Beat era , the band, similar to the Music Stromers, transformed into a soul band , but could not achieve their popularity for a long time and was dissolved at the beginning of 1972. Ziegler founded the group We .

The titles Sag Never Over , produced in 1969 on GDR radio , and Living with you were among her greatest successes. Both titles were recorded in 1971 on the GDR label Amiga . Live with you can also be heard on the Amiga sampler A Go-Go from 2000. In the years 1970 to 1972, the band was given the opportunity to appear on GDR television several times , including in the youth show Basar .
