Beatlemania

The worldwide euphoria surrounding the British band The Beatles is called Beatlemania ( English ; translated: 'Beatle manie ') . The beginning of October 13, 1963 is generally given. That day, the Beatles appeared on the TV show Val Parnell's Sunday Night At The London Palladium . During the band's first US tour in 1964, Beatlemania reached its peak and then flattened out again until the band split up in 1970. John Lennon saw Beatlemania ended with his and Yoko Ono's arrest for drug possession in 1968.

origin

The term Beatlemania was invented by the press, possibly as an allusion to Lisztomania in reference to the composer and piano virtuoso Franz Liszt in the 19th century. After the spread of this expression, the word formation -mania was often used for other euphorias around music groups, such as Rollermania with the Bay City Rollers , Abbamania with the Swedish pop group ABBA and Spicemania with the Spice Girls .
