Heinz Quermann (born February 10, 1921 in Hanover , † October 14, 2003 in Berlin ) was a television entertainer in the GDR .

Life

Quermann was an editor , director , talent scout and emcee . With his show Herzklopfen gratis , a talent competition on television, he was way ahead of his time.

Quermann promoted numerous talents in the GDR. These included singers Frank Schöbel , Chris Doerk and Dagmar Frederic as well as artists and humorists such as Winfried Krause .

In 1936 he began an apprenticeship as a baker. He also had violin and acting lessons and in 1939 passed the acting examination. At the beginning of July 1945 he became director of the theater in Koethen on the orders of the Soviet city commandant Semjon Ilyich Bogdanow , from 1947 he was head of the entertainment department at Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk Leipzig , as well as editor and speaker. In the following years he developed into a popular conférencier in several broadcast formats. From 1953 he was the presenter of the Schlager lottery, from 1955 of Da laughs the bear and from 1958 of the Schlagerrevue , which at the age of 36 became the longest-running radio hit parade in the world. As an emcee, he also made a cameo appearance in the DEFA film Alter Kahn und Junge Liebe in 1957 and in the DEFA film New Year's Punch in 1960 .

Over time, several of his radio formats have been adopted by television. This is how programs such as Da laughs the bear and the legendary program Between Breakfast and Roast Goose , a Christmas program he hosted every year from 1957 to 1991, with one exception in 1984, with Margot Ebert . In the GDR, many watched this program in the late morning of Christmas Day. Quite a few women cooked according to the transverse man's instructions and, for example, made the water for the dumplings when he recommended it on television. As an actor, he seldom appeared, if then in music or revue films. In 1960 he played the leading role in a quill movie.

When his work behind the camera became too extensive, he appeared less in front of the camera, but remained one of the most influential people in GDR entertainment until German reunification . In total, he designed around 2,500 broadcasts on radio and television and around 7,500 events. As one of the first and few GDR celebrities, he was immortalized as a wax figure in the Berlin Panopticon shortly after the fall of the Wall . He was married to radio announcer Ruth Peter-Quermann, who died in 1994. Their daughter Petra Quermann occasionally appears on television.

He found his final resting place in the Grünau forest cemetery in field 1.

Others

In 2007 Dieter Hallervorden stated that he had bought the sketch Bottle of French Fries (also known as Palim-Palim ) from Heinz Quermann, with whom he frequently exchanged skits and jokes, for around 500 marks.
