Prize for artistic folk creation
The price for artistic folk creation was a state award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was awarded in the form of a medal . It was donated on May 18, 1955 in two classes and was first awarded in 1956.
Award terms
The prize for artistic folk creation could be awarded for outstanding new creations or artistic interpretations, but also for pioneering scientific research work and for exemplary cultural and political achievements in this area. However, the prize could only be awarded to five people and three collectives in each class. The award of the prize was also associated with a cash prize of the following amount:
- I. class
- for collective awards: up to 15,000 marks
- for individuals: up to 5,000 marks
- II class
- for collective awards: up to 10,000 marks
- for individuals: up to 3,000 marks
Appearance and wearing style
1st form (1956-1958)
The Medal of the First Class of the price of silver ., In 1973 only silver plated, and the class II of bronze have mm in diameter and 35 show in their obverse in its first form the center raised embossed two-line inscription: ART / PRICE This inscription is enclosed by a laurel wreath crossed at the bottom, which is open at the top and is pierced on the left by a Venetian mask and on the right by a color mixing plate with two brushes. At the intersection of the laurel branches below, a third symbol can be seen, a harp . The reverse of the medal shows the inscription: PRICE FOR ARTISTIC PEOPLE as well as the year of the award and the class awarded afterwards. The medal was worn on a gray-blue ribbon on the upper right side of the chest.
2nd form (from 1959)
The medal of the 2nd form shows on its obverse a tree of life with symbols in the middle, on the underside of which the state coat of arms of the GDR can be seen. The tree of life itself is surrounded by the inscription: FOR ARTISTIC PEOPLE CREATION . Until 1965 the year of the award was also engraved. The obverse of the medal, on the other hand, shows a dancing folk dance couple in costume. The medal was worn on a 30 × 9 mm gray-blue fabric clasp on the upper right side of the chest.
