geography

Geographical location

Prenden is located in the Barnim Nature Park in the midst of pine forests about 32 kilometers northeast of the city center of Berlin . The district of Wandlitz, located between the neighboring Strehlesee and the northern Bauersee , had a little over 500 inhabitants in 2007.

The area of the former municipality of Prenden covered an area of 1746 hectares. It included the Kleiner Lottschesee north of Klosterfelde and encompassed almost the entire bank of the Mittelprendensee . To the north, the former community bordered on Ruhlsdorf , to the east on the city of Biesenthal , to the south and west of today's Wandlitz districts of Lanke and Klosterfelde.

history

The place name seems Prenden from the earlier name "Prande" for the north of the village lying Bauersee to be derived. Finds of hatchets and axes from the Neolithic period prove that the area was settled long before the present-day location was established.

The village of Prenden was first mentioned in a document in 1306. This is a statement, sealed on parchment, by the Brandenburg Margrave Hermann on territorial disputes and their settlement among nobles on Mecklenburg territory. According to the text, the certificate was made out on the evening of February 23, 1306 with the words: "Given and written in the village of Pranden ('dorp tu pranden') in 1306 on St. Matthias evening". The feast of St. Matthias is celebrated on February 24th.

Village church

In 1861 Theodor Fontane visited Prenden, who described the interior of the church as "bare" and the churchyard as "desolate". In his hikes through the Mark Brandenburg he treats the village in the chapter Von Sparrenland and Sparrenglocken , referring to the von Sparr family, who had possessions in Prenden for centuries and who shaped the development of the place. The best-known representative of this family is the imperial field marshal and imperial count Otto Christoph Freiherr von Sparr .

In the 1920s, Prenden developed into a climatic health resort , especially for the Berlin population. A post bus route was set up in 1928 and a tourism association was founded. Even today there are some bungalow settlements on the nearby lakes and many people looking for relaxation in the big city use the wooded surroundings of the place.

Hill above "Object 5001"

A special building in Prenden is the underground command center Object 5001 of the National Defense Council (NVR) of the party and state leadership of the GDR in the event of war. It is an expensive bunker system on three levels underground on Ützdorfer Straße, between the Stromberge and the Bogensee , which is now a listed building and could be viewed for the first and last time after registration from August to October 2008 (object 17 / 5001 Prenden).

The entire bunker area is the focus of the municipal administration. In the spring of 2008, a consultation between the owner - the federal government and the state of Berlin - and representatives of the municipality revealed that the area should initially be classified as a special area for leisure and recreation and that the land should then be sold.

After the districts of the GDR were dissolved and the state of Brandenburg was founded on October 3, 1990, Prenden was an independent municipality in the Bernau district . The administrative tasks have been carried out since July 1, 1992 by the Wandlitz office within the Barnim district . With the conversion of the office to the municipality of Wandlitz by state law on October 26, 2003, the place Prenden lost its independence. The former community has since been part of the large community of Wandlitz. On June 16, 2005, a constitutional complaint by all municipalities belonging to the office against the municipal reorganization before the constitutional court of the state of Brandenburg was rejected.

Residents

In the year 1375 the statistics according to Kaiser Karl Landbuch show 9 Hufner (with families), 14 land workers without possessions (with families), a miller's family, a pastor, a Lehnschulzen and the two knights from the family of the Sparrs. That is about 100 people if around 4 people per household are expected.

Mayor

Since the merger with Wandlitz, the former office of mayor has been exercised by a local mayor, initially also called local mayor. Hans-Joachim Auge (member of the SPD ) was elected to this office on October 13, 2008 and was confirmed in the 2014 local elections. His citizens' office hours take place on Mondays from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Prendener Dorfstraße 43 building. In the elections in 2019, Daniel Stein ( Free Voters Prenden ) was elected mayor.

economy

The first inhabitants of the place were farmers, farm workers, a pastor, craftsman and a fiefdom. Soon there were bakers, butchers, carpenters, a community nurse and employees of a post office. In the early 20th century, in addition to self-sufficiency with agricultural products, tourism played an increasingly important role in the economic life of the place. Hotels, restaurants and clubs established themselves. After the Second World War, tourism collapsed, the supply facilities such as a butcher's shop, a fishing company and grocery stores remained and a people's police station ( authorized officer ) was set up. In connection with the construction of the state bunker there were occasional hunting events, so that a hunting hotel was created. Since the fall of the Wall , attempts have been made to gear the economy of Prenden more towards tourism.

A disused telephone booth in the mid-2010s by the inhabitants to a Bucherbox converted. In spring 2018, on the initiative of many helpers, this book exchange house received a new foundation, fresh paint, built-in shelves and the label Prendener Bucherbox . The mayor thinks that a small library could be realized for Prenden.

education

From 1913 to 1968 there was a multi-class school in the village, in which all children from Prenden could study until they finished eighth grade. After 1968 the school children had to visit schools in neighboring towns, for which a school bus was on the way on weekdays. The place also had a kindergarten until 1997, when it was closed. Since then, on-site childcare has only been possible through child minders.

Culture and sights

Architectural and ground monuments

Evangelical Church Prenden

The village church of Prenden from the 16th century with a half-timbered bell tower is the cultural center of the place. Between 1998 and 2001, the exterior of the church was restored. In addition to the church services, it serves as a venue for exhibitions and concerts.

Riesenstein natural monument

Riesenstein at Strehlesee

On the northeastern shore of the Strehle lake near the village is one from the area of today's Sweden -derived boulder , a relic of the ice age glaciation . It consists of Revsund granite , is 3.85 meters long, 2.85 meters wide, 1.45 meters high, has a circumference of 10.3 meters and is said to weigh around 23 tons. An inscription in memory of Kaiser Wilhelm II was placed on its north side .

A legend has grown up around the prints found on the stone. After that, a long time ago a giant (or the devil ) had thrown a handful of stones at the bell tower of the village church because he was bothered by the beautiful but loud bells . The church tower was not hit, two of the five thrown stones stayed on the Strehlesee, three flew too far and their splashes from the Wandlitzer See formed the three holy puddles . In 1887, the smaller stone was transported to Berlin for a week on a wagon specially converted for it, where it was given a place in Humboldthain . The road was damaged in many places by the transport and had to be repaired. So the larger stone from the Strehlesee with the handprint of the devil was finally left behind. It was named Riesenstein or Teufelsstein and is still there today.

Regular events

A traditional Christmas tree burning , Easter egg roll , village church summer - diverse cultural program in the restored village church, etc. a. An open day or musical performances as well as a village festival in August each year, which is also declared as a summer festival , are worth mentioning here.

societies

The longest existing association is the Prenden volunteer fire brigade . This fire brigade provides fire protection and general help, especially at the local level. In 1956 the fishing club Prenden was founded, in 1993 the Schützengilde Prenden-Lanke eV found members in the village and around 2000 the golf club Prenden eV was established, which maintains 27 fairways southeast of the village. The organization Volkssolidarität , which was founded in GDR times, is also on site with a care facility.

Personalities who have worked on site

  • Johann Kunckel von Löwenstern (1630–1703), alchemist and glassmaker
