particularities

Entry with boats of any kind is not permitted

The Strehlesee (also Strehle-See ) is a body of water in the area of the municipality of Wandlitz . It has an area of 13 hectares and has accumulated from a glacial meltwater channel.

location

The Strehlesee in the Wandlitz-Biesenthal-Prendener lake area is located in the Barnim Nature Park , south of the Wandlitz district of Prenden . The elongated lake, which runs exactly in north-south direction, is surrounded by terminal moraines and is a legacy of the last ice age . It is the smallest body of water in the Prenden Lake District. A hiking trail leads around near the shore. The north and south banks are owned by the local fishermen and are not freely accessible. A water mill is said to have stood on the southern outflow of the lake in earlier centuries.

fauna and Flora

The lake's abundance of fish - pike , carp , mirror carp , tench , eel , bream , roach , real catfish - makes it popular with anglers. However, it is not a fishing water supervised and designated by the German Anglers' Association, fishing licenses are issued by the local lake fishing association Prenden (owner Ch. Bartel).

The wild ducks , great crested grebes and coots , which are widespread in Brandenburg , live in the reed beds of the lake and find sufficient food here. Countless insects animate the edge of the lake and the forest. However, this only reaches the lake shore in a few places; it consists of pine , beech , oak and alder . Paved roads and land make the water easily accessible, but are unsuitable for near-natural use.

In the extensive shallow water areas, reeds , sometimes rushes and cattails as well as floating leaf plants such as pond and water lilies have settled.

use

Because the Strehlesee is apparently very flat but boggy, it is not allowed to go by boat. For anglers, there is on the east bank more accessible places as residences . They can be easily reached via the parallel Lanker Allee .

On the northern edge of the lake there are some water basins for fish farming, and fish are occasionally sold there. Nearby is the Jagdhotel am Strehlesee , which was an excursion restaurant with a ballroom until 1990. There is a bathing facility on the east bank, but this is not supervised by the water rescue service - so bathing is at your own risk . The entry point into the lake is small and rather unsuitable for use with children.

The Strehlesee is part of a circular hiking trail on the three Prenden lakes. In order to upgrade the hiking trail for tourism and also to better protect the lake shore, around 50 trees, mostly alder, were felled near the shore in 2014, which blocked the view of the lake or threatened to tip over.

Devil or giant stone

legend

The 60 t heavy Prendener Teufelsstein , not far from the lake,  is said to be a relic of an outburst of anger by Satan : He threw several boulders at the Prendener Church because the loud peal caused him constant earache. He had missed the church, however, two stones fell on the edge of the Strehlesees, three more flew too far and tore open three puddles in Wandlitz .

On the stone there is an inscription that is now difficult to read: Wilhelm II, 1888–1913; Office number Lanke . This indicates that the stone was designed and erected in 1913 by the then independent municipality of Lanke on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the German emperor's reign .
