The Zülz Castle is a castle in the Upper Silesian city Zülz (Pol. Biała ) in prudnik county (Kreis Neustadt OS) in Opole .

location

Zülz Castle is located in the northern town center at ul. Opolska. It was built directly on the northern city wall. The Zülzer Water (Polish: Biała ) flows north of the castle .

history

A Kastellaneiburg is mentioned for the first time in Zülz in 1225. The current castle was built in the 16th century. Between 1638 and 1640, under the then owner Jan Krzysztof Pruszkowski, renovation work in the Baroque style was carried out by master mason M. Girisch. At the beginning of the 18th century, the barons of Proskau carried out renewed work on the castle. In the 19th century, the palace complex was extensively expanded and restored. In 1872 the castle was bought by the city of Zülz. Between 1874 and 1923 there was a preparatory institute in the castle and a teachers' college between 1875 and 1925. After that, the castle was used as a girls' school until 1934 and as a grammar school until 1945.

Between 1946 and 1980 there was a school in the castle. A commercial facility has been located in the castle since 1987 and is privately owned.

The castle has architectural elements from the early Baroque and Renaissance periods . The two-storey building with a gable roof has an "F" shape. On the west side is the four-storey castle tower with a square floor plan, which was built in the 18th century. The baroque tower has an openwork tail hood. There is a two-story gable on the side facade of the south wing. There are semicircular arcades in the courtyard.
