The Regenbogensee is an inflow and outflowless lake that was created in the last Ice Age . It is located in the Wandlitzer lake area in the depression of a headland pushed into the Liepnitzsee . The quiet forest lake belongs to the Barnim Nature Park, which was founded in 1999, and has been part of the Lanke district of Wandlitz since the end of 1998 .

Naming and use

The name Regenbogensee is probably derived from the splendor of colors of the grasses, bushes and trees of the most varied types that line the broad marshy shore and are reflected on the mirror-smooth surface together with the blue of the sky. The interaction then results in the primary colors of a rainbow .

There are only a few places where a hiker can step on the banks of the east-west stretching water with dry feet. At its northern end there is an elongated swamp area that can be crossed by means of a wooden bridge. At two points in the shallow water area, signs refer to the use of the rainbow lake as a fishing water (code 03-118 at the Niederbarnim district angler association). The Anglerverein Panketal eV carries out regular management and controls. Neither bathing in the lake nor camping in the area are allowed. A signposted hiking trail leads along its eastern bank. On the southern embankment there is an asphalt bicycle and forestry path, on the northern embankment the high bank path around the Liepnitzsee.

Plants and animals in and around the lake

Tree spirit at the Rainbow Lake

The water of the lake is not very clear due to the suspended matter it contains and silt and silt have settled on the bottom, but it offers natural habitat for some fish. The stocking of tench , carp and eel is reported . In the shallow water area, pond roses , reeds and rushes grow , among which water and brown frogs , blindworms , dragonflies and numerous small insects feel at home. The shoreline is a habitat for black alder , hazelnut bushes and grasses. Gradually rising slopes overgrown with deciduous and coniferous trees run around the entire lake, to which the lake owes its sheltered location. Numerous water birds are also native to and on the lake. A tree spirit watches over the lake .

Water investigation

In June 2008, scientists from the University of Greifswald and the Institute for Applied Aquatic Ecology Seddin carried out boreholes on the Regenbogensee in order to be able to determine the cause of the particularly rare water quality of this mesotrophic soft water lake by removing a twelve meter long drill core . What is special is the acid-base ratio and the origin of the water should also be determined more precisely. So far, only 30 such lakes have been identified in the entire state of Brandenburg. A request about the results of the investigation was not answered.
