The Lubowsee (also: Great Lubowsee ) is an Ice Age relic in the Barnim water system . It is the smallest of the three lakes on the Briese , which drains to the Havel. At a distance of 1.8 km to the east lies the Rahmersee , through which the Briese also flows.

Description and location

The lake has an almost round shape with slight indentations and is a designated fishing water (code P14-113). The mean depth of the lake is given as about three meters, but almost the entire lake bed is covered with mud.

The banks are not built on, except for the angler's home on the premises of the Lubowsee Anglers' Association . A footpath is the only lake access, but it is usually closed. The Zühlsdorf settlement area Seefeld is a few hundred meters south of the Lubowsee.

fauna and Flora

The Lubowsee has a great abundance of fish, which is due, among other things, to the care by the anglers' club. The local fish here include pikeperch , eel , perch , pike , catfish, bream , roach and rudd . Swans , wild ducks and coots inhabit the reeds and live off the fish and insects of the lake. Kingfishers , grass snakes , moor frogs and beavers have been observed near the lake .

Alder , ash , also beech and pine trees grow on the banks , vibrating lawn spreads out on the ground , and reeds and water lilies can be found in the shallow water . In addition, Sundew , Swamp grass pea , marsh Callas , Bogbean and swamp irises home here.

Naming and use

Like most places or geographical objects in Brandenburg, the name goes back to Slavic and means something like beloved lake (ljuba is Old Slavic and means love).

There are no large ungrown areas on the bank, so there is no fishing hide. Boats brought along may only be lowered into the water from existing fixed jetties. The local anglers' club Lubowsee eV also offers anglers the opportunity to take club boats out on the lake for a limited season, whereby closed seasons and designated spawning areas must be observed.

Once a year, the fishing club organizes an angling competition with other fishing clubs here at Lubowsee, especially with the neighboring fishing association from Wandlitz. You can also swim in the lake, but only at your own risk.
