The Seechen in the municipality of Wandlitz in the forest area of the city of Bernau near Berlin is a small, almost round lake in the northwest of the better known Liepnitzsee . It is a residual body of water that was separated by silting up shallow water between the island of Kleiner Werder, which was still in existence at the end of the 19th century, and the terminal moraine wall.

geography

The area of the Seechen is given as 7 ha. Like the other bodies of water in the area, Seechen was created after the last ice age . Between the Liepnitzsee and the Seechen there is a 200 meter wide strip of land, which is still referred to as Kleiner Werder. The Seechen has no visible inflow or outflow, the drainage takes place through the wetlands north and south of the Kleiner Werder to the Liepnitzsee.

On the map of the 18th century, the water surface is still contiguous and there is a small island (Kleiner Werder) in the bay. A hiking map from the 1930s already shows an interrupted water surface and the Kleine Werder is now a peninsula. In the 21st century the lake appears isolated on the maps.
