The Barnim Nature Park was founded on September 24, 1998. The landscape lies north of Berlin between the cities of Oranienburg , Liebenwalde , Eberswalde and Bernau, and in the south it includes parts of the Berlin districts of Reinickendorf and Pankow with around 4000 hectares.
Size, use, location
It is 749 km² , 55 percent of which is forest, 32 percent is used for agriculture and 3 percent is water. The rest is settlement and traffic area. The Barnim Nature Park is the only large, transnational conservation area in the states of Berlin and Brandenburg and at the same time the only nature park in the State of Berlin.
The area of the nature park lies in the triangle between Oranienburg, Eberswalde and Bernau. It includes parts of the districts of Barnim , Oberhavel and Märkisch-Oderland . A total of 65,000 people live in 55 locations in the Brandenburg part of the large conservation area.
The Berlin nature park area included is distributed on the northern outskirts of the city between the districts of Pankow ( Berlin-Buch and Berlin-Karow ) and Reinickendorf ( Berlin-Tegel ).
Characteristic
The landscape is shaped by the Barnimplatte, which dates back to the Ice Age . It is bordered by the two glacial valleys Eberswalde in the north and Berlin in the south. In the east the Oderbruch and in the west the glacial valley of the Havel border the Barnim.
administration
After various stations in the past, the seat of the administration of the nature park is housed in Wandlitz together with the nature watch, the support association and the administration of the agricultural museum. A new building has been built here since 2011, including the old village school and the agricultural museum . This new nature park center was inaugurated on September 7, 2013 as Barnim Panorama - Nature Park Center Agrarmuseum Wandlitz . The nature park center offers regular events such as a day of the regions , ranger tours and other things for those interested in nature.
