The Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park is one of 15 large protected areas in the state of Brandenburg and is located southeast of Berlin and Königs Wusterhausen in the districts of Dahme-Spreewald and Oder-Spree . The 594 square kilometer area covers a large part of the Dahmeland . The park is characterized by large areas of forest, more than 100 lakes larger than one hectare and the Dahme , a tributary of the Spree . The Dahmegewässer with the Teupitz-Köriser-Seenkette are an ideal water sports area, especially for canoeists.
history
The Dahme-Heideseengebiet was already settled during the Stone Age ; Until the 6th century it was inhabited by Germans . After the Great Migration these were replaced by West Slavic Wends , which z. B. Streganz and Pätz founded.
In the 12th century the area was colonized by German and Dutch feudal lords. The castles of Storkow and Teupitz were founded and the river was expanded so that wood could be rafted and both water and saw mills could be operated.
With the Frederician colonization in the 18th century, places with names like Philadelphia and New Boston emerged .
The saying "Raus in't Jrüne" describes the discovery of the region for recreation and relaxation by the city dwellers at the beginning of the 20th century. In the 1920s, new recreational areas and holiday settlements were created, especially along the Dahmegewaters.
Flora and fauna
During the Vistula Ice Age, sands deposited as meltwater had a major influence on the appearance of the region. In many places , the wind created inland dunes which, in addition to the elevations of the ground and terminal moraine, created a varied relief . Both fauna and flora had to adapt to these large amounts of deposited sand.
In the rather barren valley sand and dune areas, there are mainly lichen-pine forests , light mixed deciduous forests and dry sand . These provide the habitat for heat-loving animals and plants, such as B. the smooth snake , the milkweed hawk or the carnation . You can also meet the walker , the heraldic animal of the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park. But there are also large alder forests that extend in the silting area of lakes. With a bit of luck, the rare kingfisher can be observed here.
What is ecologically special is that the different habitats are not distributed like islands, but are interconnected. In the entire nature park, for example, there are low-nutrient boiler and silt bogs , which are home to peat moss , cotton grass and dwarf shrubs . The largely undisturbed landscape is even home to endangered animals such as ospreys , sea eagles and otters . But man also created refuges for nature. Valuable wet and fresh meadows were created through small-scale and extensive use of the area. Thus, both here orchids such as the Broad-winged Orchid , and the cumin Silge and superb carnation grow.
Luch areas between Kolberg and Storkow such as the Luchwiesen nature reserve form a very special geological and botanical feature. Here, salt water rises to the surface through crevices in the subsurface. The beach trident , the bay bulrush ( Juncus gerardii ) and the beach milkweed ( Glaux maritima ) have adapted perfectly to these unusual conditions . By far the largest populations of "strictly protected" species crested newt ( Triturus cristatus ) and fire-bellied toad ( Bombina bombina ) of the Natural Park located in the Schwenowseegraben carrying Reichardtsluch east of Limsdorf . Because the representative regional focus of occurrence of this species has been Luch in the 2000s as a supplement in the FFH area Schwenower forestry in the Natura 2000 composite included (FFH area Schwenower forestry supplement ).

tourism
With more than 100 lakes and seemingly endless forests, the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park is an ideal recreational area. The extensive and partly untouched flora and fauna offers insights into the native nature of the approximately 600 square kilometer area. The nature watch based in Prieros offers guided tours through the swamp and cultural landscape of this region. So you can listen to the native birds singing when spring awakens, as well as the nocturnal songs. For tour of toad fences rare can Rotbauchunken and newts are observed.
Over the Dahme , the Spree , the Havel and the Elbe , many of the lakes stored here even reach as far as the North Sea and invite you to take long boat tours.
