The Groß Schauener chain of lakes is a chain of shallow lakes in the 2124.92 hectare nature reserve of the same name , which has existed since April 27, 2000. It is located in the Oder-Spree district in the municipality of Storkow and includes six lakes.

geography

The individual lakes in the chain border on the districts of Groß Schauen , Wochowsee , Selchow , Schwerin and Bugk . The lakes themselves and part of the surrounding area were acquired by the Heinz Sielmann Foundation in 2002 . They now form Sielmann's Groß Schauener Seen natural landscape , which in turn is part of the Dahme-Heideseen nature reserve .

Lakes

The lakes belonging to the chain of lakes are (from north to south):

ecology

The lakes and the surrounding area are home to various species of swamp and water birds . These include the bittern , the great crested grebe , the mute swan and the gray goose . The nearby pylons offer Horst places for osprey . The chain of lakes is also a resting and wintering area for migratory birds .

Resident amphibians and reptiles include the water frog , grass snake and common toad . The fire-bellied toad and the rare smooth snake can also be found on the edge of the lakes.

Sea and pond roses , swamp calla , water sword lilies , orchid , sundew and royal fern grow in the lakes and the adjacent wet meadows and forest moors .

Due to the undisturbed location and the spaciousness of the area, the otter can also be found in the lakes of the water chain.

tourism

  • The chain of lakes can be circumnavigated on an approximately 35-kilometer bicycle route.
  • From Storkow Castle , the 8.5-kilometer Salzweg leads past Philadelphia and Groß Schauen to the Groß Schauener chain of lakes. During this hike, insights into the subject of salt marshes are provided at four info points , including the Marstallwiesen north of the Schaplower See. The meadows with their inland salt point are included in the Groß Schauener Seenkette nature reserve.
