The Holzerne See is a naturally created swimming lake in the area of the municipality of Groß Köris in the Dahme-Spreewald district in Brandenburg .

Location and description

The wooden lake is located about 40 km south of Berlin in the Dahme lake area . It belongs to the Teupitz-Köriser Seenkette , a collection of ten lakes connected by canals between the Teupitz lake and the Dahme . It is located in the Dahme-Heideseen nature park . The surroundings of the Wooden Lake mainly consist of forests, which are largely interspersed with campsites and holiday home areas. The Neubrück residential area of the Groß Köris community is located on the south-western bank .

The lake has an elongated, oval shape and a water surface of 114 hectares. In the south it receives an inflow from the Klein Köriser See and in the northwest from a small river from the Förstersee . The outflow is via the Schmöldesee , which is directly connected to the Hölzerner See, into the Dahme. The size of the entire surface catchment area is approx. 126 km².

In the past, the Holzerne See was heavily over-fertilized , which is why it was classified as very rich in nutrients in the mid-1990s. In the meantime, the nutrient content has been reduced by 75% through rehabilitation of the waste water treatment . Nevertheless, the visibility depth with a summer mean value in open water of 1.3 m is still relatively low and in summer there is quickly a lack of oxygen in deep water .

Tourism and use

The wooden lake is located in the Teupitz lake area, which is used by tourists, and is therefore also an attraction for visitors looking for relaxation. There are numerous holiday home and bungalow settlements, two campsites and a children's and youth recreation center (KiEZ) on the north shore of the lake.

According to the Federal Waterways Act (WaStrG), the lake is a federal waterway and can therefore be used with motor boats. You can go directly to Berlin by water from the lake. On the southern west bank there is a loading point for cargo ships that ship sand from a nearby gravel pit.

The EU bathing water point in the KiEZ Hölzerner See is checked for water quality every four weeks according to the bathing water directive ; the limit values are always observed.
