The Klein Köriser See is a naturally formed body of water in the area of the municipality of Groß Köris in the Dahme-Spreewald district in Brandenburg .

Location and description

The lake belongs to the chain of lakes Teupitz , which extends from the Teupitzer See in the west to the Dahme in the east, and is located in the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park . It extends in a north-easterly arc with a water surface of 158 hectares . The inflow comes from the Kleiner Moddersee over the Moddergraben from the west, the outflow over the Holzern See below the federal highway 179 . The water is located northeast of the community center of Groß Köris. To the north, the district of Pätz joins the municipality of Bestensee . It follows in clockwise direction: the residential area Neubrück , the eponymous district of Klein Köris , the community center and the residential area Wilhelminenhofer Weg . The next larger towns are Schwerin (around 4.9 km) and Halbe (around 6.5 km).

history

While the lake is of natural origin, the Moddergraben was artificially created in 1749. This enabled raw materials such as wood and building materials, for example bricks from the region's brick factories, to be transported to Berlin by water. Around the same time, further trenches were built that drain into the Klein Köriser See, such as the Stintgraben and Koynegraben in the east and the Löptener Hauptgraben in the south. As a result, farmers wanted to make the moist meadows usable for agriculture.

Tourism and use

The Klein Köriser See is part of the Teupitz lake landscape, which is used for tourism. As part of the federal property located Teupitzer waters with connection to the Dahme Waterway small Köriser See must be traveled by motor boats and allows you to connect up to Berlin . At kilometer 8.45 there is the only route on the Teupitz waters that is approved for water skiing . Dragon boat races have been held annually on the lake since 2004 . On the south bank there is a youth hostel with a bathing area monitored by the district with regard to water quality. On the opposite bank there are several tent sites and an allotment garden with privately used boat berths. Gravel is mined on the south-eastern bank , which in earlier years was transported across the lake, but in the 21st century mainly by road.

The Schenkenländchen office has designated a 15 km long circular hiking trail around the lake, which leads from Groß Köris via Neubrück and Klein Köris and is marked with a green dot on a white background. It is described by the capital portal berlin.de as one of the “most beautiful hiking routes in Brandenburg”.

The water quality from 2012 to 2015 was rated “excellent” in 2016 by the State Office for Occupational Safety, Consumer Protection and Health. Eels , perches , carp , tench , catfish and white fish live in the lake .
