History and naming

Streganz in the Prussian premiere from 1844

14th to 17th centuries

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1321 in a document about a free farm in neighboring Selchow as Stregantcz . In 1443 it is recorded as Stregancz and in 1599 as Stregelitz, Stregnitz . In 1641 the name Stregantz and in 1805 the current spelling Streganz . The name goes back to the old Sorbian basic form * Streganici = settlement, in which the people of a Stregan live . The Slavic personal name Stregan belongs to the original Slavic * stergti , which means in the East-Lower Sorbian form to watch, guard, watch . According to the Brandenburg name book, the place name was formed with the patronymic suffix * -ici . Nothing has been reported about the exact settlement so far, as there are no meaningful records or archaeological finds. The first settlers built their apartments as a round around a village meadow. From the year 1514 the existence of a manor is handed down, which Fritz and Heinrich Queiß belonged to Blossin , but they did not live in Streganz. Their lands were worked by farmers and köttern , who had to pay taxes to the Lords of Blossin. The remaining areas belonged to the rule of Beeskow. From 1600 the Wins zu Klein Eichholz appeared as the new owners of the manor and held the rule for 145 years. The Thirty Years' War , in which Streganz fell desolately in 1640 , also fell during this period . From 1675 there are 27 residents; 1690 already passed down to 34 residents. A feudal school courtyard, which already existed in 1688, has also come down to us from this time .

18th to 20th century

Around 1705 a bad luck hut started operations. From 1756 the manor changed hands several times. This suggests that it could have been an object of speculation. The Pechhütte closed around 1840; At about the same time, a brick factory started operations, which produced masonry bricks until the end of the Second World War . From 1847 to 1849 miners mined lignite in the region . In the course of the land reform in Germany , the Streganz manor was separated from Gut Streganzberg - a Vorwerk of the manor - and divided.
