Since the municipal reform in 2003 , the following formerly independent villages and settlements have belonged to the new municipality of Wandlitz:

The following places are part of the Wandlitz community:

  • West Colony
  • Marienwalde

Neighboring communities

The municipality of Wandlitz shares a border with the following municipalities (clockwise, starting in the north): Schorfheide , Marienwerder, Biesenthal , Bernau , Panketal (all districts of Barnim), Berlin ( district of Pankow ), Mühlenbecker Land , Oranienburg and Liebenwalde ( district of Oberhavel ) .

history

The village of Wandlitz, as the namesake of the large community newly formed in 2003, was first opened in 1242 in connection with the sale by the Margraves Johann I and Otto III. Mentioned in a document to the Lehnin monastery . During the secularization in 1542, the place came to the newly founded electoral Brandenburg office of Mühlenbeck . After the population had been badly decimated in the Thirty Years' War , the town gradually began to grow again in the 18th and 19th centuries. With the inauguration of the Berlin – Groß Schönebeck railway line, the Heidekrautbahn , on May 21, 1901, the decisive prerequisite for the further economic upswing arose. In quick succession, numerous country houses and villas were built on the Wandlitzer See . In 1907/08 the villa colony was built on the Three Holy Pipes as a result of an architectural competition. In the 1920s, artists founded a residential colony on the southeast bank of the Rahmersee . In 1923 the Strandbad Wandlitzsee and in 1927 the station building built by Wilhelm Wagner in the New Objectivity style was opened. The town hall of the community is located in the Wandlitz district and was expanded structurally in the 2010s.

The current districts of the municipality belonged to the Niederbarnim district in the Prussian province of Brandenburg since 1817 and to the Bernau district in the GDR district of Frankfurt (Oder) from 1952 . They have been in the Brandenburg district of Barnim since 1993.

The tasks of the municipal administration (main office) are divided into four subject areas: central services, personnel, IT service as well as education, family and sport. There were 22 employees working there in March 2019.

Coat of arms, flag, official seal corporate design

On December 13, 2007, the Wandlitz municipal council decided to adopt a coat of arms and on February 21, 2008 to adopt a flag in the form of a banner, which the Brandenburg Interior Minister approved by letter of April 22, 2008.

Description of coat of arms
DEU VG Wandlitz COA.svg
"Split from blue and gold crenellated by a left flank, in front a golden sea leaf."

As a stylized leaf of a water lily , the golden sea leaf indicates the Slavic origin of the name Wandlitz - Vandelice: "People who live by the water". The blue coat of arms also supports the connection to water, which almost all districts of the municipality have. The nine interlocking " battlements ", which vertically divide the shield-shaped coat of arms, symbolize the nine districts of the municipality.

After the formation of the large community of Wandlitz in October 2003, unsuccessful attempts had been made in 2006 to implement an overarching community coat of arms. On the basis of a design competition held by the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences , Department of Design, the Wandlitz community representatives agreed on the design by Andreas Brietzke. With the coat of arms, Wandlitz now also carries a flag in the same basic colors, which was designed by Frank Diemar .

Note on the name explanation:

The name wall Elitz comes to the opinion of the linguist Jürgen Udolph Although from the Slavic, or more precisely from the Polabischen and originally wrote accordingly Vądolica . According to Udolph's derivation, it refers to the basic word vądol , which means gorge or valley , and to the suffix - ica with reference to a location-dependent place name. Accordingly, Wandlitz then means either
  • the name of a first settlement in a valley or a ravine or
  • it is derived from the lake that was previously called Vądolsee , or valley lake .
flag

The draft adopted by the municipal council shows a right blue flank on the upright golden (yellow) flag cloth. The municipal coat of arms is placed in the upper half so that its golden (yellow) flank rests on the blue flank of the flag cloth. The height of the flag cloth is related to the length like 5 to 2.

Official seal

The official seal bears the inscription "GEMEINDE WANDLITZ, LANDKREIS BARNIM" and shows the coat of arms of the municipality Wandlitz. There is a number above the municipal coat of arms.

logo

In the mid-2010s, commercial artists developed a corporate design on behalf of the municipal council that is intended to appeal to visitors and residents alike: "Wandlitz - Really beautiful here". For this purpose, the geographical outline of the eponymous district was roughly generalized and filled with the merging colors green (for forest and meadow) and blue (for the water-rich surroundings). The light, handwritten community name in black stretches over it . On a white background is finally in capital letters (lined up like blocks) REAL GOOD HERE.

Community partnerships

Information board with town twinning of the municipality, status 2011

The municipality of Wandlitz maintains partnerships with the following cities:

Regular cultural and sports exchanges take place with all partners, often involving all partner locations at the same time. The partnerships had led to the establishment of the Boule Club and the Jubilate choir , among other things . In the meantime, schools and musicians have also made direct contact with similar institutions in the partner locations. On the occasion of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the partnership with La Ferrière, a German delegation opened “Le Jardin de Wandlitz” (the garden of Wandlitz) in front of the French town hall.

On the occasion of the 15-year partnership with Trzebiatów, the ultra-runner Silke Stutzke, who lives in Klosterfelde, organized a non-stop run from Wandlitz to the twin town in May 2018. She was able to win two more followers for the 225 km long route. It took them around 46 hours. Other people joined in on certain sections and there was a motorized escort team. The residents of Trzebiatów received the athletic delegation with music and an open-air sports festival.

Sights and culture

Architectural, soil and natural monuments

The community with its districts has numerous architectural and ground monuments, these are included in the list of monuments of the state of Brandenburg (as of December 31, 2015).

The North Sea-Baltic Sea watershed between Wandlitzer See and Liepnitzsee runs through Wandlitz.

Museums and theaters

The following museums belong to the municipality of Wandlitz:

  • Barnim Panorama in Wandlitz, emerged from the Agrarmuseum Wandlitz and the visitor information center Barnim
Since summer 2018, brown and white tourist boards along the motorway have been pointing to this special attraction.
  • Heidekrautbahnmuseum in Basdorf
  • International Artist Museum in Klosterfelde (closed since the founder's death in 2013, the future still uncertain; some exhibits have already been sold (as of the end of 2018).)

The small, privately operated Theater am Wandlitzsee , founded in autumn 2016, is housed on the first floor of the former station building at Wandlitzsee . The owners are Julia Horvath and Sascha Gluth , a couple of actors who live in the Schönwalde district of Wandlitz . In addition to mostly self-played pieces, they also offer some self-written pieces. In addition, other artists are invited to perform, for example to recitals, not just to plays.

Regular community events

The community fire brigade day takes place annually, during which the fire fighters from the different districts determine their best in a sporty and combative comparison. For this purpose, the teams are divided into age groups and must, for example, carry out a fire fighting attack or complete a relay run .

The George Brassens Festival , which started in the Basdorf district, is now also taking place in other Wandlitz districts with individual cultural performances.

In April 2018, at the suggestion of the local council, the first fishing festival took place in the Wandlitzsee lido. All fishing clubs and amateur anglers from the individual districts were invited to participate. On offer were hegefish (in which 270 fish were caught), as well as target throwing , boot throwing , rowing, fly- fish bait production and more. The chairman of the Wandlitzer fishing club summarized the result as follows: "[...] It was particularly well received by families, as they had the opportunity to experience a really nice day at no great expense." planned.

Economy and Infrastructure

Commercial and corporate

At the end of 2008, 2,192 companies or self-employed traders were registered in the large community of Wandlitz, which means an increase of 244 businesses compared to 2005. Only four of the companies employed over 50 people. The self-employed made up 3.86 percent of the residents of the municipality. At 85 percent, the vast majority of companies were active in the service industry. The municipality itself was the largest employer with 199 employees. Since the fall of the Wall , numerous discount grocery stores have set up shop in all parts of the municipality, or rather on the outskirts, because there was no uniform settlement concept. Since the retail location and center concept adopted in July 2008, new settlements can now be better managed. Particular attention is paid to companies with medium-term needs such as clothing, the entertainment industry, electrical household appliances and higher-priced sales facilities. In a publication from 2015, more than 2500 traders in the municipality were mentioned.

traffic

The federal road 273 runs through the community in a west-east direction between Oranienburg and the Wandlitz junction of the federal highway 11 Berlin– Stettin . The former B 109 ( Prenzlau - Berlin), which runs in a north-south direction through several districts, was  stepped down in large sections in the district throughputs, in 2015 and 2016, respectively, to state road 100. The state of Brandenburg has to take care of maintenance and care.

The Lanke (in the municipality) and Wandlitz junction of Autobahn 11 provide fast connections to the surrounding area and to long-distance destinations. Regional roads open up the community and connect the individual districts and residential areas with one another.

The Heidekrautbahn , which runs through the districts and has a total of eight train stations and stops in the municipality ( Ruhlsdorf-Zerpenschleuse , Lottschesee , Klosterfelde , Wandlitzsee , Wandlitz , Basdorf , Schönwalde , Schönerlinde ), is a major factor in public transport . The regional train line RB 27 Groß Schönebeck - Berlin-Karow runs here . It is operated by the Niederbarnimer Railway .

In addition, individual districts are served by bus lines from the Barnimer bus company, which offer a connection to Bernau and thus to the Berlin S-Bahn .

education

Wandlitz primary school

The municipality has three primary schools and one high school as well as a grammar school sponsored by the Barnim district. In the period from 2004 to 2008, Wandlitz invested a total of around 4.5 million euros in expanding the educational infrastructure. A large part of this went into the construction of a new 1900 m² multi-purpose sports hall (2.6 million; opened in February 2007) and a new primary school building in Wandlitz, the construction of a sports field in Basdorf, and the new construction of a sports hall in Klosterfelde (im Opened January 2009) and the renovation of the primary school there. However, there is still no consensus to build a school gym on the grounds of the Wandlitzer Gymnasium. In 2019 the elementary and high school in the district of Klosterfelde will have a new cafeteria.

Sports

The soccer team of SG Union Klosterfelde will play in the Brandenburg League in the 2018/19 season .

Associations and associations

All districts of Wandlitz have clubs or associations, in the summer of 2016 a total of 106 were officially registered, of which Basdorf 21, Klosterfelde 17, Lanke 4, Prenden 6, Schönerlinde 5, Schönwalde 8, Stolzenhagen 6, Wandlitz 34 and Zerpenschleuse 5. The offers include, for example, sport, culture, child, youth and senior work, fishing or sailing. Because the membership fees and small income from events cannot ensure the preservation of this diverse club landscape, the municipal administration plans fixed funds in its budget. In 2007, a total of around 89,000 euros was available for this, the allocation is based on a key that is based on the population of the individual districts. Regional associations also receive a small amount of funding. In 2019, a total of 19,000 euros in budgetary funds were made available for the non-local cultural associations ( Brassens in Basdorf , parents help parents Bernau , Film Association Brandenburg in cooperation with Bernd Sahlig, Friends of Artistic Youth Work ), the social fund was approved with 32,000 euros and the expenses around 67,000 euros have been earmarked for the 30 local clubs.

There are separate choirs in six districts that have been holding a joint benefit concert in the Golden Lion cultural stage for several years . Each choir has an average of 20 singers; Mention should be made of the Lanke women's choir , the Jubilate choir from the Wandlitz district, the church choir of the Wandlitz choir, the Wa-Canto choir of the Wandlitz grammar school, the Cantare choir from Schönwalde and the Stolzenhagen choir . The donations for the concert in 2017 amounted to around 1,100  euros , which were given to the Robinson School in the Bernauer Waldsiedlung .

Destination Recognized resort

All districts of the municipality can report on increasing numbers of tourists until the 2010s. Annually 100,000 overnight stays, one million day visitors and an associated added value of almost 13 million euros are named - which is an important economic factor. However, the development has stagnated in the meantime, so that a strategy paper that a project group appointed by the municipal administration has worked out together with a project development company should help. The 90-page material contains 60 specific individual measures, the main objective of which is to become an officially recognized resort with a better uniform appearance.
