The place La Ferrière originated in the late Roman period as Thermelières. The inhabitants call themselves “Ferriérois” / “Ferriéroise (s)”.

history

The current name of the place originated in the Middle Ages and is derived from the Latin name for iron (ferrum), which was extracted here from iron ore. The mineral was extracted in mines in what was then the village of Thermelières . Historians believe the village was founded by the Romans when they visited their first settlements in Gaul and began to mine and process the local mineral resources. Remnants of slag from the production of pig iron were found near the mines.

administration

The municipality is headed by a mayor (French: “ Maire ”) who is elected for six years. The municipal council consists of a total of 27 people. From 1995 to 2008 Marcel Rivière directed the fortunes of La Ferrière, after which Yves Auvinet, who belonged to the right-wing movement, was elected.

The logo of La Ferrière, created for advertising purposes, shows two dark red streets entwined with one another, in the middle of which the church and another building are indicated. The two street bands symbolize the national roads 160 and 101, which surround the historic Anger .

Partner municipality

La Ferrière has had a partnership with the German municipality of Wandlitz since 1997 .

Buildings

  • Catholic church with rectory. In the south of historical Angers, a larger parish hall was built in 1952/53 at the request of Abbé (Abbot) Guilloton, which could also be used for theater performances, later it was converted into a cinema ("Le Roc").
  • Town hall, it consists of two single-storey buildings connected to one another by a column-like open porch and is slightly elevated in the northern area of the lenticular, former Angers.
  • “Marcel Rivière” cultural center. It is located on Rue Nationale, west of the Anger, to which the library and exhibition rooms are directly connected.
  • Ruins of a moated castle ("Plessis Begeret"). About one kilometer northeast of the center of La Ferrière is a former moated castle that was devastated during the French Revolution at the end of the 18th century. The surrounding water is suitable for the construction of a swimming pool , which a local doctor tries to do. In 2005, the municipality began activities to renaturalize the body of water and the surrounding park areas.
  • Allotment garden “Le Caillou Blanc”
Since 2007, a private refuge has been built in three stages on the edge of the town. “Le Caillou Blanc 1” with 116 parcels and fully equipped and water-technically and electrically connected standard houses was finished in July 2009 and was handed over to those interested.
